Local Radio Freedom Act Picks Up 14 New House Co-Sponsors, 2 More In Senate

Fourteen Representatives and two Senators have joined as cosponsors of a resolution that opposes "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge" on local broadcast radio stations. The Local Radio Freedom Act (LRFA) now has 156 cosponsors in the House and 17 in the Senate.
Signing on to co-sponsor the bill are Reps. JOE BARTON (R-TX), KATHERINE CLARK (D-MA), SEAN DUFFY (R-WI), SAM GRAVES (R-MO), WALTER JONES (R-NC), KENNY MARCHANT (R-TX), ROGER MARSHALL (R-KS), MARTHA MCSALLY (R-AZ), PAUL MITCHELL (R-MI), TOM O'HALLERAN (D-AZ), PETE OLSON (R-TX), ERIK PAULSEN (R-MN), STACEY PLASKETT (D-VI (delegate)) and BILL SHUSTER (R-PA) and Sens. SUSAN COLLINS (R-ME) and STEVE DAINES (R-MT). Reps. MICHAEL CONAWAY (R-TX) and GENE GREEN (D-TX) are the original sponsors in the House, and Sens. JOHN BARRASSO (R-WY) and HEIDI HEITKAMP (D-ND) are the original Senate sponsors.
The bill reads, "Congress should not impose any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge relating to the public performance of sound recordings on a local radio station for broadcasting sound recordings over the air, or on any business for the public performance of sound recordings on a local radio station broadcast over the air."
