SAG-AFTRA has taken its contract dispute with SPANISH BROADCASTING SYSTEM to the public, alleging that SBS has violated state and federal labor law by, among other accusations, paying less than minimum wage.
DEADLINE reports that after SBS' LOS ANGELES cluster talent voted to unionize, contract negotiations have not resulted in a deal, and SAG-AFTRA has accused the company of "ongoing systemic and endemic abuses" at Regional Mexican KLAX-F (97.9 LA RAZA) and Spanish Hits KXOL-F (MEGA 96.3)/LOS ANGELES, including "being paid less than the legally mandated minimum wage, denying meal breaks and access to bathrooms during live and remote events, denying overtime in violation of CALIFORNIA law, exempting employees paid below wage threshold, denying cell phone reimbursements, and failing to provide payment for talent endorsement fees.”
The allegations also include unlawful retaliatory firing of eight employees after the unionization campaign.
