GREGG "OPIE" HUGHES has been fired by SIRIUSXM, ALL ACCESS has confirmed.
Asked for comment by ALL ACCESS, SIRIUSXM provided a statement which read, "SIRIUSXM confirms it has terminated its relationship with GREGG 'OPIE' HUGHES, host of the 'OPIE RADIO SHOW' weekday afternoons on the FACTION TALK channel. SIRIUSXM does not publicly discuss internal personnel issues." While the satellite company would not disclose the reasons for the firing, speculation among fans centered on a video made of an employee while he used the bathroom.
OPIE worked at WCMF/ROCHESTER, WUFX/BUFFALO, and WBAB/LONG ISLAND before teaming with ANTHONY CUMIA for the OPIE AND ANTHONY show, which aired at WAAF/BOSTON in 1995-98, WNEW/NEW YORK in 1998-2002 and in syndication (terminated for the "Sex for SAM 3" contest), then at XM SATELLITE RADIO in 2004-2014 (with a partial simulcast for CBS RADIO in syndication in 2006-09). CUMIA was fired in 2014 and OPIE continued with comedian and longtime O&A co-host JIM NORTON through last year, when NORTON moved to his own show with former O&A producer SAM ROBERTS.
