BONNEVILLE News-Talk KIRO-F/SEATTLE's RON AND DON SHOW is once again partnering with the SEATTLE POLICE DEPARTMENT and SEATTLE POLICE FOUNDATION in the 2017 "Beds for Kids" campaign, which aims to provide 600 children in need with their own beds (and teddy bears). The project was started in 2014 by Officers JEREMY WADE and RYAN GALLAGHER after they responded to a 911 call and found two young girls sleeping on the floor; KIRO's RON UPSHAW and DON O'NEILL helped publicize the project. This year, the beds will be distributed on SEPTEMBER 30th.
“Over the last three years we have been amazed to see how many kids in our community sleep on the floor,” said Officer WADE. “In the past three years combined, through the SEATTLE POLICE ‘Beds for Kids’ program we have provided over 500 local kids with a brand new bed. This year’s goal of 600 beds is our most ambitious yet, but with the support of our partners and the public, we know it can be done.”
“Now, more than ever, we need to make sure that every child that needs a bed gets a bed.” said O'NEILL. “When a child gets a good night sleep and something to eat it is proven they stay in school and they do better in school. Help US help POLICE help KIDS! It's another way to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.”Sponsors include OFFERUP, MATTRESS FIRM, MAKE UNITY, and THE PARAMOUNT HOTEL SEATTLE.
