The 50th annual IBC CONFERENCE concluded today at RAI CONFERENCE CENTER in AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS, after it attracted 55,000 attendees from more than 170 countries, and over 1,700 exhibitors. Held from SEPT. 14th-19th, the IBC CONFERENCE delved into the challenges facing the electronic media and entertainment industry. Here are a few highlights:
SWEDISH RADIO asserted that not only can we listen to radio on smartphones, we also can use them to produce radio. LARS HEDH, Head of Method and Technology Development at SWEDISH RADIO, said, "The smartphone of today is an important working tool for our journalists. For the past couple of years our reporters have been able to contribute to all kinds of programs using apps like REPORT IT LIVE and LUCI LIVE. Now it’s time to take the next step and run a whole show from a portable device like a tablet or a smartphone. The Project NXG, Next GENERATION RADIO house, is now running a pilot with new technical equipment. Thanks to smart solutions for remote control and transport of audio in standard networks they are now able to run a whole show including jingles, music, etc. using only a smartphone or a tablet.”
DB962 DANCE RADIO AMSTERDAM OM EDO PETERS spoke to ALL ACCESS at the IBC about the advances in studio technology he witnessed at this year’s show: “Lose virtually all cables. No more on-air studio restrictions. Today’s radio can come from anywhere to anywhere. The main mixing console will probably cease to exist as well a few years from now. I’ll put my soldering iron in a glass cabinet for nostalgia”
EUROPEAN OPERATIONS VP and ORBAN Dir./Worldwide Sales PETER J. LEE VP of and for ORBAN said, “The IBC is the ultimate place to show off the new technology. We get to meet and see our customers worldwide at this event”
Noted WorldDAB Project Dir. BERNIE O'NEILL, “We were excited to include the top executives from Norwegian public and commercial radio, NRK and P4 in the final day session, where they presented the latest radio listening figures from NORWAY, revealing the true impact on radio listening half way through this year's national FM switch-off process.”
