ESPN's lease of 19,000 square feet space of studio space at PIER 17 in LOWER MANHATTAN from the HOWARD HUGHES CORPORATION will include radio and "radio on TV" simulcast studios, the network disclosed in a press release announcing the lease TUESDAY (10/10).
The network will move into the SEAPORT DISTRICT space next SPRING and will produce multiple shows from the location, at the foot of the BROOKLYN BRIDGE. NEP will be providing technical services and staffing for the shows.
“The SEAPORT DISTRICT production facility is a state-of-the-art content factory that will allow us to produce differentiated studio content for both television and digital,” said EVP, Content CONNOR SCHELL. “The flexible spaces, both indoor and outdoor, allow us to take advantage of all that NEW YORK CITY has to offer.”
THE HOWARD HUGHES CORPORATION CEO DAVID R. WEINRIB said, “We are pleased to welcome ESPN as the latest addition to the SEAPORT DISTRICT. They will bring a new dimension of entertainment to the neighborhood with live daily telecasts from PIER 17 in what I believe will become one of the most dynamic and iconic studio spaces in the country. This is yet another sign of LOWER MANHATTAN’s evolution into a vibrant hub for the media, technology and creative sectors.”
“In addition to broadcasting unique content from their studios at PIER 17, ESPN will also be activating the broader SEAPORT DISTRICT with dynamic programming and events” said THE HOWARD HUGHES CORPORATION EVP SAUL SCHERL. “This announcement further distinguishes the SEAPORT DISTRICT as a one-of-a-kind destination with its mix of food, fashion, entertainment and cultural offerings.”
