ROBERT D. RAIFORD, the radio newsman and host who became a longtime fixture as resident curmudgeon on the CHARLOTTE-based syndicated "JOHN BOY AND BILLY BIG SHOW," died FRIDAY (11/17) at 89, according to the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER.
RAIFORD worked for many years in radio at stations like WBT-A and WIST-A/CHARLOTTE and WTOP-A/WASHINGTON and on television at WRET-TV/WPCQ-TV (now WCNC-TV)/CHARLOTTEby the time he showed up on JOHNNY "JOHN BOY" ISLEY and BILLY JAMES' show at WRFX (99.7 THE FOX)/CHARLOTTE in 1986. His blunt, "politically incorrect" commentaries aired on the show until AUGUST 2015, when a stroke limited his voice and mobility; he formally retired in MAY 2016.
