NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO Board Chairman ROGER LAMAY has chosen not to seek another term in the position, the network's media reporter DAVID FOLKENFLIK has reported. Retired CAPITAL RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT CO. Chair PAUL HAAGA, a former NPR Acting CEO, is taking over as Board Chair for a one-year term; KQED/SAN FRANCISCO's JOANN WALLACE was elected Vice Chair.
FOLKENFLIK's report, citing "a knowledgeable source," said that LAMAY, the GM of UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA Triple A WXPN/PHILADELPHIA, "is the subject of a complaint filed with NPR alleging past inappropriate behavior"; LAMAY's statement on his choice not to run for a third one-year term referred to the allegation, saying that he "did not make this decision based on a third party story about my personal life over a decade ago. I welcome any Board Committee review."
The network has recently been roiled over incidents of sexual harassment, leading to the exit of SVP of News and Editorial Director MICHAEL ORESKES, the placement of Chief News Editor DAVID SWEENEY on leave while the network investigates allegations of sexual misconduct, and criticism of CEO JARL MOHN's handling of the situation; MOHN has taken a medical leave to deal with hypertension issues.
