The SETON HALL COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATION AND THE ARTS has added four individuals to its Professionals-In-Residence program, including radio veterans NANCY SOLOMON and GLENN SHUCK.
The program focuses on experiential learning and applied theory, with a focus on topics such as podcasting and radio newscasting.
Dean DIERDRE YATES commented, "These professionals have proven track records in their careers and are recognized as leaders in their respective specializations. They uniquely bring their own expertise and skillset to the COLLEGE's undergraduate students and will provide an additional dimension to the students’ theoretical and experiential learning."
WNYC Managing Editor NANCY SOLOMON is a two-time PEABODY AWARD winner for her podcasting series on NEW JERSEY Governor CHRIS CHRISTIE and his administration, titled, "CHRIS CHRISTIE, WHITE HOUSE Ambitions, and the Abuse of Power." SOLOMON will be teaching a class on podcasting and exploring the skills needed to create something worth listening to.
"The best podcasts have, at their core, good journalism skills," she said. "Whether that’s interviewing technique, research skills or storytelling and writing for the ear, these are the foundational skills required to make a good podcast."
CBS NEW YORK News/Talk WINS newscaster GLENN SCHUCK is a SETON HALL album who began his radio career with the college station WSOU in 1981. Since then, he has covered key events such as the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, SUPER BOWLS, and various elements of former NEW YORK CITY Mayor BLOOMBERG's administration. Working exclusively with WSOU news students, SCHUCK will provide professional mentorship and work one-on-one to help them reach their career goals in radio broadcasting.
"Each student I work with will be able to write, produce and voice a conversational newscast," said SCHUCK. "I will stress how critical it is to make quality writing a top priority for each student, since it is the key to success in journalism and electronic media."
