The COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION (CMA) hosted the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME (CMHOF) Class Of 2018 announcement ceremony today (3/27). DOTTIE WEST will be inducted in the Veteran Era category, RICKY SKAGGS will enter in the Modern Era category, and JOHNNY GIMBLE in the Recording/Touring Musician category. PEARL RECORDS' GARTH BROOKS and TRISHA YEARWOOD were on hand to announce the 2018 honorees, the 58th group of Country legends to join the MUSEUM's famous rotunda. The COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME was created in 1961 by the CMA.
Candidates are considered eligible for induction to the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME into the Modern Era category 20 years after they first achieve National prominence and into the Veteran Era category 40 years after they first achieve National prominence. The Recording and/or Touring Musician Active Prior to 1980 category is awarded every third year in rotation with the Songwriter and Non-Performer categories. Class of 2018 inductees will be officially inducted during the traditional invitation-only Medallion Ceremony later this year.
"This year’s class of inductees is notable not only for their indelible individual achievements, but also for the extent to which they have aided other artists’ greatness," said CMHOF CEO KYLE YOUNG. "RICKY SKAGGS, DOTTIE WEST, and JOHNNY GIMBLE are revered for their open-minded approaches to music, but beloved because of their open-hearted approaches to life." Added CMA CEO SARAH TRAHERN, "This honor is the highest achievement in our industry, and each of this year's inductees have helped define Country music throughout the decades. We're thrilled to congratulate them today and welcome them into the distinguished circle that is the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME." The induction of SKAGGS, WEST, and GIMBLE brings the CMHOF from 133 members to 136. Watch the full CMHOF Class Of 2018 unveiling here.
