There might be no more moving story coming out of the BOSTON MARATHON than MARY SHERTENLIEB's quest to finish the race, and just after midnight (ET) early this morning, the wife of BEASLEY Sports WBZ-F (98.5 THE SPORTS HUB)/BOSTON "TOUCHER AND RICH" morning co-host RICH SHERTENLIEB made it to the finish line, with help from her husband.
MARY, who was diagnosed with leukemia five years ago and is now in remission, ran, despite the terrible weather and her own immune system deficiency, to raise money for the DANA-FARBER CANCER INSTITUTE, collecting over $33,000; she had to pause just after 11a and made it with RICH to a DUNKIN' DONUTS in WELLESLEY when "her body began to shiver uncontrollably, her lips turned purple, and because of her compromised immune system, her doctors instructed her to stop running in the rain should this happen." But she was not to be stopped, resuming the run at 8:30p with RICH by her side, making it to Heartbreak Hill at 9:45 and the CITGO sign in KENMORE SQUARE at midnight. MARY crossed the finish line just after 12:10a early TUESDAY.
