MARY J. BLIGE won nine awards at last night's 2006 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS, including Album ("The Breakthrough") and Song ("Be Without You") of the Year in the R&B/Hip-Hop category; the song also won Hot 100 Song of the Year. CARRIE UNDERWOOD won five awards, including Album of the Year for "Some Hearts," while T.I. also took home five trophies, including Artist and Album ("King") of the Year in the Rap category. CHRIS BROWN was named Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year and Male Artist of the Year, and NICKELBACK won Artist Duo/Group and Rock Album ("All The Right Reasons") of the Year, among others.
The broadcast on FOX of the awards show -- which featured performances by BLIGE, JANET JACKSON, GWEN STEFANI, FERGIE w/WILL.I.AM, LUDACRIS w/PHARRELL & YOUNG JEEZY, THE FRAY and NICKELBACK w/KID ROCK & ZZ TOP's BILLY GIBBONS -- finished a distant fourth in households and adults 18-49 in the NIELSEN ratings.
