NEW YORK PUBLIC MEDIA News-Talk WNYC-A-F/NEW YORK's midterm election coverage, packaged under the portal "Your Voice, Your Choice," will include airing a national four-times-a-week call-in show, a daily podcast, and digital features.
The national radio show, "AMERICA ON THE LINE," hosted by WASHINGTON POST reporter and MSNBC contributor JONATHAN CAPEHART, launches TODAY (9/10) and will air MONDAYS through THURSDAYS 8-9p (ET) for nine weeks in the election run-up. WNYC reporters and a roster of pundits including THE FEDERALIST's BEN DOMENECG, FORDHAM UNIVERSITY's CHRISTINA GREER, NPR "LATINO USA" host MARIA HINOJOSA, reporter JAMIL SMITH, former WTMJ-A/MILWAUKEE host CHARLIE SYKES, and THE NATION and CNN's JOAN WALSH, will join CAPEHART on the show.
The local "BRIAN LEHRER SHOW" will also go into election mode starting on SEPTEMBER 24th with "30 Issues in 30 Days."
On the digital front, WNYC and its GOTHAMIST site's "ASK A REPORTER" will entertain election questions along with the usual civic life queries, and WNYC's "COUNT ME IN" mobile alerts will offer text messages helping users register to vote and get out the vote in their communities. WNYC is also offering a primary election voter's guide in conjunction with CITY LIMITS and GOTHAM GAZETTE and continues with its "POLITICS BRIEF" three-times-weekly newsletter.
“POLITICS BRIEF” is also the basis for a new podcast feed that curates political content from WNYC shows and segments from three existing WNYC STUDIOS podcasts, "THE UNITED STATES OF ANXIETY," "TRUMP, INC.," and "MORE PERFECT."
“While the issues at stake are national, voting is ultimately a local act,” said VP of News JIM SCHACHTER. “With the decline in local news, democracy is threatened, even in a year of unprecedented engagement. WNYC is committed to filling this void in NEW YORK CITY and our region with original and independent reporting, deep and nuanced discussions of the issues, and tools to equip voters with the knowledge it takes to get them into the voting booth.”
