CBS News Radio Reporter/Anchor Dave Barrett Dies

CBS NEWS RADIO reporter and anchor DAVE BARRETT has passed away, the network is reporting. BARRETT, who joined CBS from FOX NEWS RADIO in 2001, died suddenly TODAY (9/19) at 63.
BARRETT, a three-time MURROW AWARD winner, anchored hourly reports and the WORLD NEWS ROUNDUP LATE EDITION; he served as News Director at FOX NEWS RADIO in 1998-2001 and previously spent 15 years as a reporter for ABC RADIO NEWS and ESPN RADIO, and worked in the HOUSTON market as play-by-play voice of the minor league hockey HOUSTON APOLLOS. For CBS, BARRETT, besides anchoring, was the network's primary reporter for outdoor events like music festivals, sports, and the OLYMPICS.
“DAVE BARRETT was a special kind of broadcaster -- one who could transport you to the scene of the story in just a few words,” said GM GRAIG SWAGLER. “He will be dearly missed -- both in this newsroom and across the country.”
