You’d think MINNESOTANS would be dying to head south in NOVEMBER, but the crew at MINNESOTA PUBIC RADIO Triple A KCMP (THE CURRENT)/MINNEAPOLIS-ST.PAUL are heading north instead. The station will again be broadcasting from this year’s ICELAND AIRWAVES FESTIVAL in REYKJAVIK.
Now in its 20th year, the festival draws ICELAND’s brightest emerging musical talent and forward-thinking international acts -- over 220 artists from almost 30 countries.“This will be our second year broadcasting live from ICELAND – which still boggles our minds from a technical and aesthetic perspective,” said PD JIM MCGUINN. “ICELAND is one of the most unique places on earth, and AIRWAVES has become one of the best music discovery destinations annually.”
MCGUINN added, “The entire country embraces AIRWAVES -- there are only 350,000 Icelanders, with about 200,000 in REYKJAVIK -- and when you add the bands and thousands of fans from around the globe, popping in and out of a dozen or so live venues, it really becomes a celebration of music for four days.“
CURRENT evening DJ MARK WHEAT will be broadcasting from ICELAND throughout the festival, and mny in-studio sessions and interviews are planned. WHEAT will also be giving listeners detailed reports about the food, the people and the culture of this special place.
The station’s also building excitement about the event among listeners by holding a drawing. One lucky listener – and a +1 – will get airfare, hotel and passes to the festival.
