NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO is being sued by a man who claims the network discriminates against the deaf and hard-of-hearing by not providing closed captioning of videos on its NPR.org website.
PHILIP SULLIVAN JR. sued NPR in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of NEW YORK as a purported class action, alleging that the network has placed "access barriers (that) make it impossible for deaf and hard-of-hearing users to comprehend the audio portion of videos that are posted on the Website." SULLIVAN alleges that he was unable to watch a video called “A 4-Minute Surgery That Can Give Sight to the Blind” on the site, and seeks compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and state law plus compensatory damages.
