The CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING has awarded a $750,000 grant to AMERICAN UNIVERSITY News-Talk WAMU/WASHINGTON to fund "1A ACROSS AMERICA," a two-year effort involving WAMU and six other public radio operations and aimed at adding more local viewpoints to WAMU and NPR's nationally-syndicated "1A" show, hosted by JOSHUA JOHNSON. Joining WAMU in the program will be HOUSTON PUBLIC MEDIA News-Talk KUHF (NEWS 88.7)/HOUSTON; WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY News-Talk-Variety KMUW/WICHITA; COMMUNITY RADIO FOR NORTHERN COLORADO News-Talk KUNC/GREELEY, CO; MICHIGAN RADIO; MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO; and UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA AT BIRMINGHAM News-Talk WBHM/BIRMINGHAM, AL.
“CPB has a long-term commitment to supporting diversity in public media -- including geographic diversity and points of view,” said CPB SVP of Journalism and Radio KATHY MERRITT. “With our support, 1A ACROSS AMERICA will bring more local views on issues of importance into a national conversation that is informed by local journalism.”
“1A ACROSS AMERICA is a valuable opportunity to explore local conversations and tap into original local journalism taking place at our partner stations leading up to the 2020 presidential elections,” said WAMU Sr. Dir. of Content and News ANDI MCDANIEL. “This is part of our commitment to programming that truly reflects AMERICA.”
