First Six Teams Picked For Google Podcasts Creator Program’s Accelerator Segment

The first six winning podcast teams have been selected for the accelerator segment of PRX and GOOGLE's GOOGLE PODCASTS creator program. Selected from thousands of entries from over 100 countries in 17 languages were:

- LAS RARAS, SANTIAGO, CHILE (MARTIN CRUZ, CATALINA MAY)
- TIMESTORM, BLOOMFIELD, NJ (MICHAEL AQUINO, DANIA RAMOS)
- LONG DISTANCE, LOS ANGELES (PATRICK EPINO, PAOLA MARDO)
- THE COLORED GIRL BEAUTIFUL, BALTIMORE (ASELOKA SMITH)
- WHO TAUGHT YOU HOW TO DRIVE?!, PHILADELPHIA (TANIKKA CHARRAE, MELISSA TSUEI, TEZARAH WILKINS)
"The teams selected for the first round show incredible promise, and we couldn’t be more excited to help these producers develop and grow their shows," said GOOGLE PODCASTS Product Manager ZACK RENEAU-WEDEEN. "This program is one of the ways we hope to ensure that our millions of listeners have access to a variety of content for all types of global audiences."
"The wide response to this global application process demonstrates the growing interest in podcasting around the world," added PRX CEO KERRI HOFFMAN. "The range of stories from the winning teams is evidence that audio storytelling can open us up to new perspectives. Through the training program and the introductory training videos in multiple languages we will release later this year, we plan to support even more people interested in learning how to capture and share their stories.”
The selected podcast teams are receiving an all-expenses-paid training program starting with a one-week intensive course at PRX’s Podcast Garage in BOSTON later this month, followed by pitch training and weekly webinars over 20 weeks as the teams develop pilots. A live launch show will air in JUNE. Also selected to participate in the JANUARY training are AMMAN, JORDAN's SOWT podcast network's RAMSEY GEORGE TESDELL and Brazilian magazine PIAUI's PAULA SCARPIN.
