In honor of VINYLTHON and its 60th anniversary FOOTHILL COLLEGE station KFJC-FM will play vinyl discs for more than 60 hours beginning on THURSDAY, APRIL 11th.
This year marks the COLLEGE RADIO FOUNDATION’s 4th annual VINYLTHON on SATURDAY, APRIL 13th. Radio stations are invited to play at least one hour of all-vinyl programming; with stations playing 24 hours of vinyl awarded the GOLDEN SLIPMAT AWARD.
With a library of nearly 45,000 pieces of vinyl (and growing), KFJC regularly plays music from vinyl (and even shellac) records. A colorful vinyl special has been a staple of KFJC's MONTH OF MAYHEM ("Kaleidoscope Of Colored Vinyl" airs MAYHEM 14 at 10p-2a (PT) and DJs have also highlighted 78s ("Ladies on 78s" airs MAYHEM 14 at 7p-10p (PT) and vinyl-only labels ("Caedmon: A Fourth Dimension for the Printed Page" airs MAYHEM 5 at 7p-10p (PT).
As a sign of that vinyl passion, KFJC's volunteer DJs enthusiastically offered to play vinyl for the full 24 hours of VINYLTHON and more.
With KFJC's 60th anniversary coming up in OCTOBER; a new goal of 60 hours was envisioned and quickly surpassed. At this writing, more than 89.7 hours of vinyl programming is expected! KFJC.org will have regular updates on the start and end time for VINYLTHON, which is currently slated to begin on THUIRSDAY, APRIL 11th at 2p (PT) and run until at least 6a (PT) on MONDAY, APRIL 15th..
