CBC President ROBERT RABINOVITCH told listeners to the network's "THE CURRENT" that while he is sorry listeners were without regular programming for eight weeks during the lockout of the network's staff, he will not resign.
RABINOVITCH, under heavy criticism for the breakdown in negotiations and the lengthy lockout, appeared to lay the blame with the CANADIAN MEDIA GUILD, saying "there was no need for this lockout. There was no need for this situation had there been serious negotiations over the 16 months, but at the end of the 16 months, there were 42 issues that had to be clarified. So I'm sorry, but I would be even more sorry if I couldn't cover a domestic event like an election, or the OLYMPICS, or the launch of our new schedule...."
