KIRK MINIHANE has made it official and has announced his departure from ENTERCOM and RADIO.COM. MINIHANE posted a PERISCOPE video from a CVS store in LEXINGTON, MA to announce that he has signed the paperwork to exit ENTERCOM, where he had worked at Sports WEEI-F/BOSTON and hosting his "ENOUGH ABOUT ME" podcast for about a decade, and joked that he is now "the most sought-after free agent in the history of media ... I am away from those assholes, finally, and their restrictions and their stupid rules and their sh-tty radio."
MINIHANE said that he does not know what his next move will be but said that "a couple of people have reached out." He said that the previously-announced move to ENTERCOM's national RADIO.COM platform "wasn't going to happen" and would be "a failure ... I wanted no part of it." The podcast title "ENOUGH ABOUT ME" is staying MINIHANE's property, he noted, and he gave interested parties two weeks to make an offer not in traditional radio, pointing out that his separation deal freed him with no non-compete restrictions. "I don't want to do any radio locally," he added, saying "I'm done with that."
Last week, MINIHANE abruptly stopped producing "ENOUGH ABOUT ME;" he had been off WEEI since last year after suicidal thoughts led him to take time off, and was replaced as GERRY CALLAHAN's co-host in mornings by MIKE MUTNANSKY. Late in 2018, ENTERCOM officially pulled MINIHANE off the air and announced that he would be hosting a new national show with a new co-host early in 2019, but the show never materialized.
"I have nothing good to say about the place I was just at, nothing," MINIHANE said of WEEI, taking shots at PD JOE ZARBANO (who he said told frequent WEEI and MINIHANE critic BOB MURCHISON that it would have been better if MINIHANE had actually committed suicide) and CALLAHAN.
ENTERCOM issued a statement saying, “We have mutually agreed to part ways with KIRK and allow him to pursue other opportunities. Over the years, KIRK has been a valuable member of the WEEI team, and a host of the ‘ENOUGH ABOUT ME’ podcast. We wish him all the best on his future endeavors.”
