ALL ACCESS send condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of longtime AUSTIN newsman DICK ELLIS, who passed away yesterday (5/22) after a short illness. He was 69. Prior to his retirement, ELLIS spent two-and-a-half years as News Dir. for Country station KOKE and the AUSTIN RADIO NETWORK. His lengthy radio and television career also included stints at KVUE and KTBC.
"What made DICK … unique is the way he told every story he ever shared with us," said KOKE morning host BOB COLE. "It wasn't just his rare commitment to using all the right, unbiased words, it was the one-of-a-kind way he used his TEXAS-heart to tell us everything. He signed off every one of his morning newscasts here on radio by saying: 'I'm DICK ELLIS, have a good news day.'"
ELLIS is survived by his wife, son, daughter and nine grandchildren. A memorial service has been planned for THURSDAY, MAY 30th at 2p (CT) at CRESTVIEW BAPTIST CHURCH OF GEORGETOWN in GEORGETOWN, TEXAS. Read a tribute to ELLIS here.
