ESPN Deportes Radio To Shut Down In September

ESPN is shutting down ESPN DEPORTES RADIO on SEPTEMBER 8th, the network announced TODAY (6/11).
A statement issued by the company read, “Hispanic audience consumer habits are changing rapidly and this requires ESPN to evolve as well. It’s no secret Hispanic fans skew heavily on digital and social which is why we made the decision to discontinue ESPN DEPORTES terrestrial radio (ESPN DEPORTES RADIO) in SEPTEMBER. Moving forward, ESPN will continue serving Hispanic sports fans with the widest variety of sports through multiple platforms including television, digital, social, mobile and audio podcasts.”
While no official word about the fate of the programming or stations carrying the network was announced, SPORTS BUSINESS DAILY is reporting that the plan is to convert some of the ESPN DEPORTES RADIO shows into podcasts, adding 10 new podcasts including including "FUTBOL PICANTE," "LOS CAPITANES," "CRONOMETRO," "NFL LIVE," "A LOS GOLPES," "NOS PONEMOS LAS PILAS," "EL DIARIO DE MARTIN," "ESPN RADIO FORMULA," "LA LOCOMOTORA," and "EL DIARIO DEPORTIVO," and that O&O station WEPN-A (ESPN DEPORTES RADIO NUEVA YORK 1050AM)/NEW YORK will convert to English-language Sports.
