Radio's Best Friend, ART VUOLO, checks in with the sad news that, "We just lost BOB LIGGETT. ROBERT G. LIGGETT, 76, just passed away from pancreatic cancer yesterday morning. I feel bad, after talking to him about five weeks ago, that I was unable to get to see him one last time."
Memorial visitation will be at A.H. PETERS FUNERAL HOME in GROSSE POINTE WOODS on JULY 25th, with the funeral on the 26th at the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in GROSSE POINTE FARMS.
LIGGETT owned radio stations in MICHIGAN, NEW YORK, MINNESOTA, SOUTH CAROLINA, OHIO and CALIFORNIA. After selling all his remaining stations in MICHIGAN (mostly around LANSING) to CITADEL in 2000, his only broadcast properties were in the PORT HURON area northeast of DETROIT. His company was known as LIGGETT COMMUNICATIONS. In 2000 he bought BIG BOY RESTAURANTS, which are headquartered in WARREN (suburban DETROIT).
LIGGETT is survived by his wife of 31 years, VICTORIA, and four daughters.
