BLAKE POWERS, formerly on air with ENTERCOM Classic Hits KLUV (98.7 K-LUV)/DALLAS recently took a trip overseas. During the first two weeks of SEPTEMBER he met with our radio brothers and sisters in MANILA, PHILIPPINES.
Even though English is the second language, he had a great time meeting with Radio and TV pros, discussing the similarities and differences on how both countries do Radio, and our industry's future.
BLAKE has family and friends in MANILA and said "The PHILIPPINES is one of the most hospitable countries in the world."
While in MANILA, BLAKE visited with ALWI BROADCASTING CORPORATION's Easy Listening DWQZ (97.9 Home FM) PD/Morning Personality BRAGGY BRAGANZA.
On TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd, BLAKE spent time with the MANILA BROADCASTING COMPANY, in the suburb of PASAY, with their 5 nationwide outlets: DZRH-A Easy Listening (90.7 LOVE RADIO) Midday personality EDSA.
In an extremely unfortunate turn of events, one month after BLAKE'S visit, the MANILA BROADCASTING COMPANY studios in the suburb of PASAY, experienced a fire that burned the facility to the ground. DWRK(96.3 EASY ROCK) Asst. MGR/Morning Personality SAM BARRIOS contacted BLAKE to say a fire broke out on the morning of OCTOBER 2nd next door at long-time theme park and sister company "STAR CITY" and swept through the MANILA BROADCASTING COMPANY offices and studios. The entire studio complex was lost and all stations are now broadcasting from their transmitters.
BARRIOS added MANILA BROADCASTING COMPANY ownership and management are grateful there were no injuries, all employees are still being paid and plans are underway to move to new studio space asap.
Here is what remains of the DWRK (96.3 EASY ROCK) on-air studio.
BLAKE writes "Our Radio brothers and sisters at MANILA BROADCASTING COMPANY could really use your prayers and encouragement! Please leave some at SAM BARRIOS' 96.3 Easy Rock FACEBOOK page. Best wishes to my/our Radio friends at MANILA BROADCASTING COMPANY!"
