The SAN DIEGO READER's KEN LEIGHTON is reporting that a memo circulated to employees of TEGNA News-Talk KFMB-A and Rock KFMB-F/SAN DIEGO indicated that the stations, acquired by the former GANNETT television division in early 2018 with the purchase of CBS affiliate KFMB-TV (CBS 8) and CW affiliate KFMB-DT2 (CW 6)/SAN DIEGO from MIDWEST TELEVISION, are in the process of being sold.
While TEGNA had no comment on the report, LEIGHTON added that sources indicated interest in the stations from iHEARTMEDIA, which could move the Sports format from the lesser current signal of KLSD-A (XTRA 1360) to KFMB-A's stronger signal and better dial position; iHEARTMEDIA would need to divest the 1360 frequency and one of its FMs to acquire the two TEGNA stations.
