The COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION has named KRIS KRISTOFFERSON as the recipient of its 2019 WILLIE NELSON Lifetime Achievement Award. The legendary singer-songwriter will be given a tribute during "The 53rd Annual CMA Awards" broadcast on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13th. Country artists set to perform one of his biggest hits, "Me And Bobby McGee," will include DIERKS BENTLEY with SHERYL CROW, as well as CHRIS JANSON and JOHN OSBORNE of the Country duo BROTHERS OSBORNE. KRISTOFFERSON will not be in attendance at the show.
The award recognizes an iconic artist who has achieved both national and international success through performances, record sales, public representation and more. Previous performers who have been honored include the award’s namesake, WILLIE NELSON, along with KENNY ROGERS, JOHNNY CASH and DOLLY PARTON.
“KRIS is a living legend whose impact on our genre has been monumental,” said CMA CEO SARAH TRAHERN “He is the definition of an icon and someone our community holds with such high regard. I’m thrilled our Board selected KRIS this year for one of CMA’s highest accolades. Though he won’t be joining us at the CMA Awards, I hope our tribute performance brings a big smile to his face.”
