Weekend host CRAIG SILVERMAN has told the DENVER POST that he was fired by SALEM News-Talk KNUS-A/DENVER in mid-show SATURDAY (11/16) for criticizing President DONALD TRUMP, but the station is saying that he was not fired and his characterization of the incident is incorrect.
SILVERMAN, a former Chief Deputy District Attorney in DENVER, said that he was talking about how TRUMP has become "toxic" in COLORADO and was criticizing the President's attacks on the witnesses in the impeachment hearing when the show was suddenly interrupted with news and PD KELLY MICHAELS came into the studio saying "you're done."
VP/GM BRIAN TAYLOR told the POST in an email that SILVERMAN was not fired but his show was “simply interrupted yesterday due to his on-air announcement about his intention to be featured on a competing radio station and that the story about his firing for criticizing TRUMP was "absolutely untrue. We have never told Mr. SILVERMAN the position to take on TRUMP and impeachment. Our hosts have the freedom to express their opinions on current events based on their own personal conviction.” TAYLOR said that SILVERMAN had appeared on other shows, including the show hosted by his former co-host DAN CAPLIS on crosstown iHEARTMEDIA News-Talk KHOW-A, and had been asked not to do so, but that SILVERMAN said on the air that he would appear on the other shows, prompting KNUS to pull SILVERMAN off the air.
For his part, SILVERMAN responded that he believed the show had been canceled; the KNUS website returned an error message instead of his show page. He said he had met with management on THURSDAY over the appearances on other shows and had been threatened with cancellation but added that he is an independent contractor and nothing in his agreement with KNUS prevents appearances on other stations.
SILVERMAN has been hosting the 9a-noon (MT) SATURDAY show for over five years after eight years at KHOW.
