Philly's Giant Gene Arnold Dies At 78

ARNOLD EUGENE RUBIN, known as GIANT GENE ARNOLD on PHILADELPHIA radio in the 1960s and 1970s, passed away NOVEMBER 18th in NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA, reports the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. He was 78 and had been battling cancer for two years.
RUBIN initially wrote and produced records under the name "Rick Roman," given to him by DICK CLARK when RUBIN was a teen dancer on "AMERICAN BANDSTAND." He started in radio at WEEZ-A/CHESTER, PA in 1966, then moved to WIFI/PHILADELPHIA in 1967 and then to WCAM-A/CAMDEN, WIBG-A/PHILADELPHIA, and WCAU-A/PHILADELPHIA, later moving into advertising at THE AMERICAN AGENCY and reviving his radio activity at WZZD-A in 1980. ARNOLD was inducted into the BROADCAST PIONEERS OF PHILADELPHIA Hall of Fame in 2018.
