"Tradio" radio shows are not where one would expect to hear controversial comments, but the host of a swap-shop show on CHERRY CREEK RADIO's KSUB-A/CEDAR CITY, UT has been fired for a joke that flopped.
The SALT LAKE TRIBUNE reports that PAUL "SARGE" FICE, host of "TRADE-IO," was dismissed for responding on last THURSDAY's show (10/20) to a caller's sale of a "Mexican roping saddle" by joking that the saddle could be used to "rope Mexicans" crossing the border. A later caller complained and indicated displeasure with the station's owner and sponsors.
FICE was fired FRIDAY by the cluster's management, over the objection of KSUB manager STEVE MINER, who told the TRIBUNE that while he resents FICE's comment and doesn't blame the listener who complained, the firing without hearing FICE out first was "like the thought police going beyond political correctness to thought cleansing."
