After stunting with a loop of THE STAPLES SINGERS' “I’ll Take You There,” at noon local time today, URBan RADIO BROADCASTING flipped Oldies WLAY-A/MUSCLE SHOALS, AL to a “local music only” format that celebrates the legendary call letters and the area’s musical heritage. In order to meet the criteria for the station’s library, a song must have some direct connection to the SHOALS area of ALABAMA. If the music was recorded or written in the region, it makes the cut. If an artist was born or spent a significant amount of their career in the SHOALS, they’re in. Otherwise, only blues musicians will get a free pass to hit the airwaves. All area artists are invited to bring their work to the station for airplay consideration.
The station, which is headed by URBan RADIO BROADCASTING Dir./Programming and Operations BRIAN RICKMAN, will also, in the coming months, incorporate an increased amount of public service to the community via its programming and outreach initiatives. Local news, weather and traffic updates will be provided by crosshall sister New/Talker WVNA-A.
