The CBC has announced its SPRING/SUMMER 2022 podcast release schedule, with several new series on tap along with a returning show.
Launching MAY 17th, "KUPER ISLAND," an eight-part series hosted by DUNCAN MCCUE, investigates the deaths of indigenous children at a residential school, one of several where indigenous children were forced to attend to "assimilate" and those who died there, mostly from tuberculosis, were buried in unmarked graves. MCCUE said, “When the former chief of PENELAKUT first told me how her community has grappled with the restless spirits of children ever since the KUPER ISLAND RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL closed, I knew it was a story more people needed to hear. I wanted to go beyond the cold, hard numbers of unmarked graves, to help people understand the deaths of children at a residential school aren’t a thing of the past. These tragic deaths travel like ripples over water, touching generations. These were children who were loved and had dreams -- and their loss still impacts Indigenous lives today.”
"SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING" is returning for its delayed seventh season on MAY 25th with DAVID RIDGEN and AMANDA ROBB teaming to investigate the 1988 murder of ROBB's uncle, killed for performing abortions.
On JUNE 7th, "THE VILLAGE: THE MONTREAL MURDERS" and a French-language version, "LE VILLAGE: MUERTES, COMBATS, FIERTÉ," will look at a series of murders of gay men in MONTREAL in the 1990s. FRANCIS PLOURDE hosts the English-language version and MARIE-EVE TREMBLAY hosts the French version, produced by RADIO-CANADA.
FALEN JOHNSON is hosting a five-part podcast on the legendary BUFFY SAINTE-MARIE, "BUFFY," debuting JUNE 21st.
And JULY 12th will bring "THE KILL LIST." a six-part series hosted by MARY LYNK on the death of a human rights activist in TORONTO that turned out to be connected to abductions and killing of dissidents in PAKISTAN.
