SAGA Country WPOR and Classic Country WZAN/W268CS (970 AM/101.5 THE OUTLAW)/PORTLAND, ME PD JONATHAN “JR” RUPPEL is departing effective FRIDAY, MAY 27th to join TOWNSQUARE MEDIA as Dir./Content for its LANSING, MI cluster, beginning JUNE 1st. In his new role, he will also serve as PD for Country WITL and Classic Rock WMMQ, with oversight of the cluster’s other four stations as well.
The position he’s filling at TOWNSQUARE has been vacant since McCONNELL ADAMS stepped down from the role last fall to focus on programming Top 40 WJIM (NOW 97.5) and AC WFMK, and host his NOW 97.5 morning show (NET NEWS 9/10/21). The cluster also includes News Talk WJIM-A and Sports WVFN (AM 730 THE GAME).
RUPPEL joined WPOR as PD in 2019, arriving from the company's HARRISONBURG, VA cluster, where he was OM for the eight-station group and PD of Country WSIG (NET NEWS 6/12/19).
He tells ALL ACCESS, “Although it’s been a long time since I called the area home, I’m actually a native Michigander. Serving as PD of WITL puts me at the helm of a station I used to listen to on the radio under my pillow when I was a kid. Kind of awesome.”
He added, “I’ve enjoyed my time with SAGA, and I’m proud of the things we’ve accomplished in the past three years in PORTLAND (as well as the seven years before that with SAGA’s WSIG in HARRISONBURG, VA). I’m excited about the new opportunity that lies ahead with TOWNSQUARE.”
Congratulate him here through MAY 27th.
