WNNX (99X)/Atlanta … It’s Alive!

We're Baaaaaaaaaaack!

With a lot of promos saying, “a major announcement coming this morning at 7:35a,” playing between Classic Alternative music like DIVINYLS "I Touch Myself", a revived WNNX (99X)/ATLANTA lead into that time benchmark with PEARL JAM "Alive" (Live). 

The song ended and the mic went live: “Hello … is anyone out there? Welcome to 99X, my name is BARNES, this is the worst kept secret in promo land … this has never been done in radio … bringing back a defining brand for many people’s lives and those who created it.

“I have a list of absolutes (99X PD) AXEL will do afternoons, and this is not the finished product by any means … this station is unfolding and giving it time – I work for myself and gave myself permission to do this.”

AXL went on to say that BARNES will not the only voice to be on mornings “We wish we could let it all out … The Best Of The Morning X starts TODAY.”

CUMULUS Chief Content Officer BRIAN PHILIPS told ALL ACCESS, “BARNES is the anchor of new morning show, and he will have multiple partners involved who will touch this project and they are all part of the original 99X crew. A midday personality of note will be named soon, AXEL will handle afternoons and nights are TBA. 

“If you are listening, then it’s pretty obvious that we are building this on the fly. Listeners are calling in and recalling their fondest memories of the station. Listeners are calling us asking if we are going to bring back ‘Big Day Out’ and ‘Chinese New Year’ – and yes, we are already talking to LIVE NATION.” 

PHILIPS added, “Streaming is a large part of our plan, and we are hearing from many who no longer living in ATLANTA. Truly this is a labor of love for all of us and the listeners! The special joy of this is in the fulfillment of it. More fun is coming.”
