NORTH COAST RADIO has closed on the sale of Silent WJZR/ROCHESTER, NY to WXXI PUBLIC MEDIA for $1.2 million. The buyer plans to air the News-Talk programming of its WXXI-A on the FM signal, which holds a construction permit to upgrade to the equivalent of 6 kw from ROCHESTER's PINNACLE HILL tower site. WXXI also owns Classical WXXI-F and operates the UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER's WRUR.
SCOTT FYBUSH of FYBUSH MEDIA brokered the deal on behalf of the buyer, for which he also works on-air; he said, "This one is special. I'm not just the broker, I'm also an on-air host at WXXI and a lifelong listener and supporter. I'm looking forward to getting on the air on the new FM signal."
"We’ve got an opportunity now to really spread out our signal, to make sure that people get it at night, and in the winter months,” said WXXI CEO NORM SILVERSTEIN. “And we couldn’t have done it without the support and cooperation of LEE RUST. He’s been just terrific.”
