This year's 65th annual GRAMMY AWARDS returns to the newly named CRYPTO.COM ARENA in LOS ANGELES after a one-year stop in LAS VEGAS last year. BEYONCE leads all nominees with nine, followed by KENDRICK LAMAR with eight, setting up another fascinating battle vs. ADELE in the three major categories; SONG, RECORD and ALBUM OF THE YEAR, as BAD BUNNY, TAYLOR SWIFT, HARRY STYLES, BRANDI CARLILE, DOJA CAT, LIZZO, ABBA and DJ KHALED, COLDPLAY, STEVE LACY and BONNIE RAITT lurk as major contenders.
ADELE's "25" famously beat out BEYONCE's "Lemonade" for ALBUM OF THE YEAR back in 2017, with the victor even admitting her competitor should have won. ADELE is going for a new record as the first artist to sweep the three major categories on three separate occasions. She is currently the record-holder with two.
BEYONCE is currently the most awarded female artist of all time (28 wins), most awarded vocalist (28 wins), most nominated woman and overall artist (record 88 nominations in a tie with JAY-Z) and second most awarded person in a tie with QUINCY JONES (28 wins) after GEORG SOLTI (31 wins), according to VEGASINSIDER.COM.
If ADELE wins SONG OF THE YEAR for "Easy On Me," she would become the first three-time winner in this category after "Rolling In The Deep" and "Hello."
If BEYONCE wins SONG OF THE YEAR for "Break My Soul," it would be her second ("Single Ladies").
If TAYLOR SWIFT wins SONG OF THE YEAR for "All Too Well," it would be her first after a record-breaking six nominations, which makes her the most-nominated female songwriter in GRAMMY history and one of the three most nominated ever, alongside PAUL McCARTNEY and LIONEL RICHIE.
For RECORD OF THE YEAR, ADELE could join BRUNO MARS and PAUL SIMON as the only artists with three such honors for "Easy On Me" (after "Rolling In The Deep" and "Hello").
If BEYONCE wins in this category for "Break My Soul," it will be her first after eight nominations, the most in this category for someone who hasn't previously won.
In ALBUM OF THE YEAR, with a win for "30," ADELE would join FRANK SINATRA and STEVIE WONDER as the only three-time winners of the GRAMMY. It would be her third consecutive album to win the award, which would be unprecedented (STEVIE WONDER has two). BAD BUNNY's "Un Verano Sin T" would be the first SPANISH language album to win in the category. If KENDRICK LAMAR's "Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers" takes home ALBUM OF THE YEAR, it would be a first for a solo male rapper (others were won by LAURYN HILL and OUTKAST).
JAY-Z is currently the most nominated man and overall artist (record 88 nominations in a tie with BEYONCE), the most awarded rapper (24 wins in a tie with KANYE WEST), and 10th most awarded GRAMMY winner of all time (once again, in a tie with KANYE WEST with 24) -- depending on the number of GRAMMYS that he will win out of his five nominations this year, he might extend his record as the most awarded rapper of all time (and thus break his tie with KANYE WEST) and climb up on the rank of the most awarded GRAMMY winners.
