CONRAD DOBLER, the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS, and BUFFALO BILLS guard known for his aggressive play and reputation as a "dirty" player, died MONDAY (2/13) in PUEBLO, CO at 73. DOBLER, who titled his autobiography "THEY CALL ME DIRTY," was a three-time PRO BOWL selection over his ten-season NFL career.
After retiring, DOBLER was featured in MILLER LITE commercials and operated a medical staffing company, but had to deal with pain from the after-effects of years of football injuries and financial hardships from medical bills after an injury sustained by his wife JOY left her a paraplegic; after the DOBLERS' plight was aired on ESPN, golfer PHIL MICKELSON stepped in and paid for the DOBLERS' children's college education.
In 1989-1992, DOBLER hosted an afternoon sports talk show at KCMO-A/KANSAS CITY with TOM DORE and, later, BOB MAYHALL.
