Veteran radio programmer/morning star WAYNE COY, who announced his resignation over a week ago from the PD/morning show post at CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WRVQ (Q94)/RICHMOND, is leaving radio, effective NOVEMBER 10th to join LAS VEGAS-based CONSOLIDATED MEDIA as Promotion Manager.
In his new post, COY will be responsible for planning and executing radio and television promotions for COnsolidated and act as a liaison for the company to the broadcasting, entertainment and music industries.
COY, who did his last show yesterday (11/2) concluded his radio career exactly 24 years to the day it began in 1981. He will be in the building through NOVEMBER 9th to help Interim PD/morning partner DARRIN STONE and morning co-host MELISSA to shape the direction and define roles for new morning show. MD JONATHAN REED has been upped to Interim APD.
"I'm pumped," said COY. "Although it’s very tough to leave behind the staff and management at Q94, they share in my excitement over finding an outlet for my creative energies that will allow me to maximize my abilities and continue to work with radio and music professionals. After 24 years on the air and programming, I felt like it was time to stretch the road a bit further."
He adds, "I've never believed that anyone should be put in a box and labeled as 'this' or 'that'. Life is way too short to not continue to learn and grow. This position will keep me involved with radio and the entertainment business on a day-to-day basis. CONSOLIDATED is a young and dynamic company that is only beginning to realize it’s amazing potential. I am also looking forward to working closely with VP LANCE O'BRIEN (Vice President) and Chairman Of The Board MICHAEL KAPLAN and, building on the already strong relationships with PREMIERE RADIO, WESTWOOD ONE and great radio stations around the
world."COY's last was to announce Q94's 2nd annual "A Q Stic Christmas" set for DECEMBER 14th at the RICHMOND CONVENTION CENTER featuring, BOWLING FOR SOUP, NATASHA BEDINGFIELD, COLLECTIVE SOUL, LIZ PHAIR, and JASON MRAZ. COY concluded, "Thanks to RVP/Market Manager RUTH STOUTERMIRE for the opportunity, RVPP BILL CAHILL and SVP's GENE ROMANO and MARC CHASE for the support. If you're gonna go out, this is the way we all wish we could. Now where's my damn horse?"
