The RAB says first-quarter radio revenue rose 1% overall to $4.728 billion, sparked by a 1% gain in local revenue (to $3.224 billion), a 10% gain in nonspot revenue and 9% inrease in network revenue offsetting a 1% drop in national revenue.
The communications/cellular/public utilities and concerts/theater/movies categories both showed a 17.3% jump year-to-year, with health care up 9.5%. Meanwhile, radio's biggest category, automotive, fell 2.6%, although the top 25 advertisers in the category showed a nearly 2% increase and dealer dollars rose 7.7%, not quite offsetting a 4.2% drop for manufacturer dollars.
