CBS Top-40/Rhythmic WPGC/WASHINGTON morning maven DONNIE SIMPSON celebrated his 30th anniversary on the air FRIDAY (8/25) at the WARNER THEATER in WASHINGTON. On hand to sweeten the celebration were 1,800 fans, DONNIE’s family and a star-studded lineup of celebrities. The celebs included YOLANDA ADAMS, MARIO, SMOKEY ROBINSON, THE O’JAYS and former WASHINGTON REDSKINS cornerback DARREL GREEN. Current Mayor ADRIAN FENTY and former mayor MARION BERRY also came by to pay their respects.
Also joining in tribute via video were JOE GIBBS, BISHOP T.D. JAKES, TAVIS SMILEY, SUGAR RAY LEONARD and Democratic presidential hopeful BARACK OBAMA.
SIMPSON is entering his third decade in the Nation’s Capitol. The event was also a fund-raiser for SIMPSON and his wife PAM. DONNIE explained what he does and why it works this way: “If it’s not interesting to me, it’s not going to be interesting to a listener.”
