On the weekend of JULY 21-22, PRESS AC WWZY-WBHX (THE BREEZE)/MONMOUTH-OCEAN, NJ hosted an on-air reunion and it was all caught on tape. The Radio Greats Weekend was the brainchild of PD MIKE FITZGERALD and former CBS-FM PD JOE MCCOY, who is now a consultant to the station.
The event kicked off at 10a SATURDAY morning with the former "Morning Mayor of WABC" in the 1960s, HERB OSCAR ANDERSON. He sang his signature "Hello Again" theme and sang a half-dozen other songs on the radio. The weekend also featured on the air: JOE MCCOY, BOB SHANNON, MIKE FITZGERALD, RANDY DAVIS (who now works afternoons at The Breeze), BOBBY JAY and DON K. REED with his famous Doo Wop Shop. Other radio stars included CAPTAIN JACK, DON TANDLER, VINCE HARTNELL and ED SALVAS, with call-ins from COUSIN BRUCIE, HARRY HARRISON, DAN INGRAM, RON LUNDY, NORM N. NITE and the voice of CBS-FM, ZIGGY.
"Radio’s best friend," ART VUOLO, JR. flew in from MICHIGAN to videotape the broadcast in-studio, and has edited it down to a three-hour DVD divided into 45 chapters for easy navigation. Read more about it at www.breezeradio.com and www.vuolovideo.com.
