MANCOW MULLER has filed suit against EMMIS COMMUNICATIONS claiming that the company has made "false and disparaging statements" about him that blocked CRAWFORD Urban WPWX (POWER 92)/CHICAGO from picking up his show, now syndicated by TALK RADIO NETWORK.
MULLER, seeking $6 million in the suit, charges that EMMIS' Alternative WKQX (Q101) aired a bit after MANCOW left the station parodying him calling in and making obscene comments, and that the company sent advertisers spoiled meat representing a "dead cow." He also says that EMMIS was involved in blocking four possible studio lease agreements after he left EMMIS.
MANCOW's attorney MICHAEL YOUNG told the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES' ROBERT FEDER, "When they let him go, they didn't just let him go. They went out of their way to interfere with his efforts to get back on the air in CHICAGO.
"MANCOW is very sincere about this," YOUNG continued. "He was most reluctant to take this step, but he felt that this was the only way to address his concerns."
EMMIS/CHICAGO RVP/Market Manager MARV NYREN responded to news of the suit by calling it "typical MANCOW ..."I have no idea what any of this is, but it sounds very frivolous to me. Obviously he's looking for media attention. I feel very sorry for Mr. MANCOW."
