The BBC will merge its TV, radio, and online newsrooms, reports the GUARDIAN, which says that the combined BBC NEWS operation will face a 5% budget cut over the next five years.
The paper reports that BBC TV news head PETER HORROCKS will oversee the operation, with radio news head STEPHEN MITCHELL reassigned to run a new department covering news discussion programs. Merging the operations will reduce costs and will allow the network to send one reporter rather than two or three to cover a single story.
