As ALL ACCESS reported first early MONDAY morning, CBS Talk WKRK (LIVE 97.1 FREE FM)/DETROIT flipped to Sports at 3p TODAY, in a simulcast with sister Sports WXYT-A. The stations are using the slogan "DETROIT'S SPORTS POWERHOUSE, 97.1 FM AND 1270 AM," and flipped with an aborted sports update and the second hour of the afternoon "SPORTS INFERNO" with MIKE VALENTI and TERRY FOSTER, previously heard only on the AM side. The FM side's afternoon stars JEFF DEMINSKI and BILL DOYLE move to mornings 6-10a, replacing OPIE AND ANTHONY on FM and ESPN RADIO's MIKE GREENBERG and MIKE GOLIC on AM.
The combined station will drop network programming in evenings and will add local shows with PAT CAPUTO and DENNIS FITHIAN. The rest of the FM's lineup -- OPIE AND ANTHONY, JOHNNY D, and MOTOR CITY MIDDAYS with JAY TOWERS, SHILA, and BILL MCALLISTER -- gets dropped in the move. The AM side's "BIG SHOW" with SCOTT ANDERSON and DOUG KARSCH continues in the simulcast 10a-2p.
The stations already simulcast play-by-play coverage of the TIGERS and RED WINGS, and WKRK is the flagship for LIONS football, all of which will continue with the simulcast.
