CBS RADIO, CLEAR CHANNEL, CUMULUS, COX, ENTERCOM and GREATER MEDIA are all in the process of installing iTUNES Tagging technology. As a result, consumers who hear a song on their local HD Radio stations -- and want to preview, buy and download it later on iTUNES -- will soon be able to do that with just the touch of a button on an enabled HD Radio receiver.
"We are very pleased with the strong support ITUNES Tagging has received from the broadcast radio industry," said APPLE VP/IPOD Product Marketing GREG JOSWIAK. "ITUNES Tagging is a great way for local broadcasters to jump into the digital music space and for consumers to easily discover new music on their HD Radio and enjoy it with iTUNES and their iPOD."
We believe that HD Radio innovations such as this will continue to open up additional and new services for consumers and revenue opportunities for broadcasters.
"When asked about the possibilities for HD Radio broadcasting my response is always the same -- the opportunities are limitless," said CBS RADIO Pres./CEO DAN MASON. "This announcement is proof positive that HD Radio technology is a significant advancement for the radio industry, one that will afford our listeners with greater access to the music they discover on our stations. We're thrilled to be working with APPLE's iTUNES and iPOD, the world's leading portable music player, and are excited to see the company embracing all the benefits HD Radio technology provides."
CLEAR CHANNEL CEO MARK MAYS commented, "CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO remains committed to being the leader in HD Radio content on both primary and multicast channels, and our embrace of iTUNES tagging is just the latest step in that leadership. We believe that HD Radio innovations such as this will continue to open up additional and new services for consumers and revenue opportunities for broadcasters."
"Empowering our audience with more information and choice has been a cornerstone of COX RADIO's new technology efforts, and this exciting opportunity is a natural extension of that," said COX Pres./CEO BOB NEIL.
"ENTERCOM is committed to supporting iTUNES Tagging," said ENTERCOM Pres./CEO DAVID J. FIELD. "This unique technology enables listeners to purchase the music they hear on our HD Radio channels, and we fully support its implementation in our local markets."
GREATER MEDIA Pres./CEO PETER SMYTH commented, "GREATER MEDIA believes in HD Radio technology, and innovations such as this and other data transmission capabilities will broaden and deepen our ability to communicate with listeners on many different levels."
"Leveraging HD Radio technology, broadcasters are expanding their business models with new revenue streams," said IBIQUITY DIGITAL Pres./CEO BOB STRUBLE. "We commend the groups who have demonstrated the foresight and commitment to implement iTUNES Tagging technology, and we welcome other broadcasters to join them."
