Condolences to family and friends of LOS ANGELES radio legend JIM HAWTHORNE, who died TUESDAY afternoon in GOLETA, CA, just 14 days short of his 90th birthday, according to LARADIO.COM.
The bespectacled HAWTHORNE (nicknamed "Ol' Weather Eyes") was known as an innovative talent from his early days at KXLA-A (later KRLA-A, now KDIS-A)/PASADENA-LOS ANGELES through TV stints as a variety show host (at KLAC-TV, now KCOP (TV)), weatherman (at KNBH-TV, now KNBC (TV), and at KTTV (TV)), a run as morning man/APD at KFWB-A, and as co-host/creator of the legendary "CHECKERS AND POGO" kids' show at KGMB-TV/HONOLULU. He later served as GM at KOA-A/DENVER before his retirement.
