COX RADIO has made the official announcement of news reported by ALL ACCESS late YESTERDAY afternoon (NET NEWS 12/10): BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE will return to terrestrial radio doing mornings at Classic Rock WHPT/TAMPA and Classic Rock WFYV/JACKSONVILLE. He will continue to do his afternoon show on SIRIUS.
BUBBA, aka TODD CLEM, returns to the airwaves four years after being fired by CLEAR CHANNEL and fined by the FCC after doing a skit about cartoon characters having sex. He had long been a controversial morning fixture for a dozen years.
"We're extremely excited to bring BBB’s morning show back to terrestrial radio in TAMPA and JACKSONVILLE," COX RVP/TAMPA Market Manager JAY O’CONNOR stated, "He’s enjoyed tremendous past success in both markets and listeners have been asking for his return for some time. On JANUARY 8th, 2008, we're going to give that to them! We look forward to hearing BUBBA’s morning show and watching the great impact he'll have in these markets."
"Radio listeners in JACKSONVILLE love BUBBA and they still ask about him all of the time," COX RADIO VP & JACKSONVILLE Market Manager BILL HENDRICH commented, "In the past four years Bubba and his team have become one of the most entertaining shows in our business. BUBBA knows the rules of terrestrial radio and we are sure that he will stay within those rules while giving JACKSONVILLE a great new morning radio show."
"I want to thank COX RADIO for giving me the chance to bring a morning show back to TAMPA and JACKSONVILLE," BUBBA stated. "And yes, we already know the big question -- we're going to do a ‘clean’ show during weekday mornings on COX RADIO."
