On DECEMBER 25th at 6p, CLEAR CHANNEL Urban WJBT (92.7 THE BEAT)/JACKSONVILLE began broadcasting at 93.3 FM. The new signal for WJBT is more powerful. 93.3 FM broadcasts at 50,000 watts, while the old signal at 92.7 FM was 2,600 watts.
"It makes sense for WJBT, which is currently the #1 ranked radio station in JACKSONVILLE," said VP/Market Manager BARBARA LATHAM, adding that CLEAR CHANNEL RADIO has been "considering alternatives for some time." Enhanced service for the listening community and increasing appeal to advertisers was cited as the primary motivation. LATHAM noted that "the 93.3 FM frequency provides not only a substantial increase in wattage, but also a better geographic complement to the WJBT audience."
JACKSONVILLE Dir./Programming GAIL AUSTIN stated that another exciting change was coming -- the addition WEDNESDAY JANUARY 2nd, 2008, of the STEVE HARVEY Morning Show -- to WJBT’s new home at 93.3 FM. "STEVE HARVEY, one of the original ‘Kings of Comedy’ has proved to be incredibly successful as a radio personality," said AUSTIN. "We are very happy to bring his show to JACKSONVILLE."
