PARAGON MEDIA STRATEGIES has released the first of a five-part series examining the Contemporary Christian format, with the first part looking at "The Christian CHR Listener." Among the results, gleaned from a survey of 605 listeners (63% female) conducted with GOODRATINGS STRATEGIC SERVICES: the Christian CHR listeners also listen mostly to AC (19%) and Christian AC/Inspirational (19%), followed by Country and other Christian CHR stations (13% each), Top 40 (11%), Classic Rock (8%), Classic Hits/80s (7%), and Oldies (6%). Half listen to secular stations, but are "not loyal" to the secular choices.
PARAGON COO/Radio JOHN STEVENS says "we found the loyalty of Christian CHR listeners to both the format and Christian stations in general to be very high. About half were 'crossover' listeners who also listen to secular radio stations, with the most popular music formats being AC and Country. However, their strong allegiance to Christian stations was not swayed by their crossover listening to secular radio."
