The CBC gets final approval from the CRTC to use 88.1 FM for a new FM simulcast for its CBC RADIO ONE station CBU-A/VANCOUVER. The new transmitter will have an effective radiated power of 8,900 watts.
The CRTC in MAY approved the simulcast, with the proviso that the AM station be maintained in some manner (the CBC had initially asked to convert CBU to FM and to add an FM transmitter at GABRIOLA ISLAND and to add an FM transmitter for CBCV-F/VICTORIA at NANAIMO; the Commission rejected that plan and proposed the simulcast instead).
